Planescape Torment user reviews

Highlights:

  • Amazing game.
  • The graphics still hold up ok, so does the gameplay and If you played Baldur's gate you probably know what your in for.
  • If you like NWN and Baldur's gate then you will love this.
  • The characters, the storyline, everything flows towards perfection. Simply said, this is one of the best games ever created.
  • This is the second most requested game on GOG for a reason; it is, by far, one of the best games ever made in the genre (found in 8 reviews).
  • Since I can't avoid gushing, I'll keep it short: Torment is, quite simply, the best RPG ever made for any system, anywhere, ever.
  • You can, in fact, get through the entire game without fighting in a single battle (found in 2 reviews).
  • And it's spread out through the entire game both as little things that jog his memory and as signs of his passing.
  • It's powerful stuff, among the best stories ever told.Another hint? Go as a mage when you can.
  • Every single situation or conflict has multiple solutions, where the most satisfying one often is to talk your way out of the fight.
  • Every time you are defeated in combat, you simply wake up on a slab in the mortuary.
  • And every time I found something new in it.
  • It took a couple of hours to get used to reading a few pages of text every time you talk to a sprite, whether they are an important character or not.
  • One of my favorite games of all time.
  • The only D&D RPG where Wisdom and Charisma are the most important stats...
  • We will never see a game like Torment ever again.
  • This game defines the PC Role Playing Game and is the pinnacle of classic PC gaming.
  • This is a masterpiece, overshadowed by none when it comes to storytelling and interactive dialogue (forget about mass effect).
  • Unlike games such as Mass Effect, they too continue to develop until the very end of the game.
  • Truly, while Bioware did an impressive job with Baldur's Gate storyline and characters, they really outdid themselves in Planescape Torment.
  • First: it is almost certainly the best cRPG ever made (found in 6 reviews).

Main character:

  • In addition, the main character himself is the focus of the story and you know almost nothing about yourself.
  • The main character's weapons are clubs, daggers, and fists, with nary a sword or bow or magical staff in sight.
  • An amnesiac main character isn't very original, but it is the way the story is told that makes it so engaging.
  • It's possible to recruit seven different characters, but only five can accompany the main character.
  • Suffice it to say the main character is known simply as the Nameless One, waking up on a slab in a mortuary and meeting a friendly face.

Writing and story:

  • Honestly, it's the best written game I've ever played.
  • You can even defeat the final boss through dialogue should you choose.
  • This is a game to play if you like a good story, a different world and enjoy reading.
  • It has a great story enriched with details, great dialogues and atmosphere.
  • It had fantastic writing, a great story, and great characters.
  • Personally, I recommend a high charisma and wisdom (18 or 19) to unlock some interesting dialogue.
  • Another interesting thing about this is it is not played in the same way traditional RPGs are played.
  • In short, Planescape: Torment is a true RPG story.
  • In conclusion, if you are a true RPG fan, you owe it to yourself to play this game.
  • Key conversations can take a long time to absorb all of the information.
  • Overall well written story, Characters that stand out through the ages, and a must buy for those whom love RPG's.

Combat System:

  • The only complaint I could ever really have is that the combat system can be a tad convoluted, but not really to its detriment.

Graphics:

  • The spell animations are AWESOME.
  • The spell effects have also aged really well.
  • You play it for it's amazing writing, and frankly impressive spell effects.
  • I know what amazing gameplay hides itself behind poor graphics and dumb npc`s.

Sound and voice acting:

  • Although there isn't a ton of it, the voice acting is another major strong point in this game that I wanted to mention.
  • Soundtrack is atmospheric and voice acting is very well made.
