Background:

  • If you don't like CRPG's, lots of text, and a slower, more methodical approach, or you didn't like the first two games, then chances are you won't like this.
  • Those familiar with the first two games may earn more from the reading experience: The lingo and dialogue of the Shadowrun universe are unique and endearing. It is not "Star Trek"-style technobabble; it all makes sense in this dark, urban fantasy.
  • Quite possibly the best game in the Shadowrun Returns series, and definitely a sign that Harebrained is taking their job seriously (seen in 4 reviews).
  • If you liked Dragonfall and the original Shadowrun Returns then Hong Kong takes everything that was good about those and multiplies it to the nth degree (seen in 30 reviews).
  • All in all, I'm loving this game, and Harebrained Studios keeps putting out better and better stuff. Keep your eyes peeled for more of their work (found in 2 reviews).
  • If you are new to the serie and curious about the setting, this is a good chapter and it's self contained (as Dragonfall was self contained from Dead Man Switch.).

Story:

  • The story draws you in, with yet a different take on the shadowrun business with memorable characters. Sadly you don't get to see a lot of Hong Kong as a city, confined to a few areas in the slum. And the main story feels very railroaded.
  • It's pretty short (less than 20 hours).
  • Some interesting Runs to do. Such as: Breaking into a Corporate office and messing up the Feng Shui (found in 3 reviews)

Music:

  • I love the new soundtrack, it's very moody and often fits the theme of a particular run perfectly.

Gameplay:

  • The tactical combat, the freedom of character creation, and the a-la-carte missions should appeal to the more goal-oriented RPG fans among us.
  • Character creation is the same as previous games.
  • Huge number of skill dependent dialogue options.

Recommended for:

  • If you like stories with interesting characters
  • If you like well written stories
  • If you enjoyed the Shadowrun series, this is the best adventure until now
